Title: Devising the Elements of Digital Inequality: A Case Study from Bangladesh

Aims:

It is imperative to resolve digital inequalities if developing countries are to enhance their national development policies and practices. Understanding the underlying reasons that create digital inequality is crucial to address the root causes of digital inequality. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore those factors that create digital inequality in Bangladesh. The research question can be formulated as ‘What factors create the digital inequality in Bangladesh, and why do they continue to exist?’

Key findings and ideas:

This research revealed twenty-three factors that create digital inequality in Bangladesh. These were clustered into five groups (referred as elements) of digital inequality: educational, infrastructural, social, economical, and usable design. The results reflect on what needs to be done to ensure the inclusion, adoption and contributions of ICTs for everyone in Bangladesh, which in turn contributes to reducing digital inequality in the country.
